Candidates preparing for the Scientific Assistant position within the India Meteorological Department (IMD) are advised to take note of the revised educational qualification criteria.

Revised Educational Qualification for Scientific Assistant (IMD)

As per the official notice dated 10-09-2026, the essential qualifications for the post of Scientific Assistant (SA) in the India Meteorological Department have been clarified as follows:

• Qualification 1: Bachelor’s Degree in Science with Physics as one of the subjects from a recognised institution or university.
• OR
• Qualification 2: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Computer Applications or Electronics or Electronics and Communication Engineering or Electronics Telecommunication Engineering or Instrumentation or Information Technology or Telecommunication Engineering or Communication Engineering from a recognised institution or university.

Important Note for Candidates

Candidates possessing the qualification mentioned in Qualification 2 (Engineering/IT/CS related degrees) must also have passed Class XII examination from a recognised Board with Physics and Mathematics as mandatory subjects.
