What is the UPSC Reserve List and how does it work?
- Sealed Cover System: While declaring the main results, the UPSC simultaneously prepares a Reserve List and keeps it in a sealed envelope.
- Service Allocation Vacancy: This list is opened when candidates selected in the main list do not join the service or when seats remain vacant due to cadre allocation.
- DoPT Request: Upon the request of the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), the UPSC releases the roll numbers of candidates from this Reserve List.
Eligibility & Important Rules
- Cut-off Marks: Candidates who miss out on a spot in the main list but are close to the minimum qualifying marks (Cut-off) have their names included in this list.
- Category Wise Allocation: Selection of candidates from General, OBC, EWS, SC, and ST categories is done according to their category and available vacant posts.
- Time Duration: This list is usually published within 4 to 6 months of the release of the Final Result.
