SSC CPO 2026: Major Changes Explained
The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has introduced significant changes for the SSC CPO 2026 recruitment exam. Aspirants preparing for Sub-Inspector in Delhi Police and CAPFs must take note of the revised exam pattern, vacancy count, and marking scheme.
Here is a detailed breakdown of what has changed in SSC CPO 2026 compared to previous cycles:
1. Vacancy Details
The total number of vacancies has seen a sharp decline from 3,073 to 1,871 (a drop of 39.1%).
- Delhi Police: Increased from 212 to 317
- CAPF SI (GD): Decreased from 2,861 to 1,320
2. New Post Added
A new post has been introduced in the recruitment cycle: CISF SI (Fire) with 234 vacancies (for Male candidates, age group 18-30 years).
3. Paper Pattern & Final Merit Changes
- Paper-I Halved: Previously 200 Questions / 200 Marks / 2 Hours, it has been revised to 100 Questions / 100 Marks / 1 Hour.
- New Paper-II: Now consists of Reasoning (20 Q), GK (20 Q), Maths (20 Q), and English (100 Q). Total: 160 Questions, 320 Marks, 2 Hours.
- Final Merit: Unlike previous years where merit was calculated using Paper-I + Paper-II, the 2026 final merit will be based on Paper-II only.
- English Dominance: English still dominates, carrying 200 out of 320 marks (62.5% of Final Merit) in Paper-II.
4. Negative Marking
The negative marking scheme has been updated as follows:
- Paper-I: -0.25 marks
